Sundae on Sunday

My sweet, imaginative, fun sister-in-law, Barb, made me this piece of wall art for my birthday. Perhaps the inspiration came from knowing how much I like ice cream . . . or perhaps it was the memory of all the delicious gelato we shared in Rome a couple of years ago . . .

As soon as I saw it, I felt an uncontrollable, urgent need for an ice cream sundae so I ran to the store to get the essential ingredients, including the maraschino cherries. Is this art imitating life, or the other way around . . . ?

For some reason, my family has gotten it in their heads that if they rub the glass bowl, magically, ice cream sundaes will appear in front of their eyes, sort of like Aladdin's lamp, but sweeter . . . so now it's hanging in the kitchen . . . but the boys (and that includes my husband) have promised me that they are going to take very good care of it and rub the bowl no more than once a week . . .

I don't know which one I like more, the fake or the real! ;)

Maria,
That is so funny. That that would really be something if we could figure out a way to make real ice cream appear by rubbing the bowl.

Gelato is yummy but I'll bet it tasts even better in Rome. What a fun decoration. You should take a pic of it hanging and where you put it?

Maria - are you a sister from a different mother? I come from a family with a devoted affection for ice cream it boarders on being a certifiable affliction. Former Dairy Queen worker (aunt and uncle owned the store). Lactose intolerance has never gotten in my way of soft-served yogurt or ice cream. I'll endure the suffering - it means that much to me. My husband just shakes his head each time the current DQ commercial comes on (family getting into the car while in the car wash in order to chase down the DQ free ice cream truck) = yea, that's my family.

Thank you for the complements on my blog. Do a book - you won't regret the time when you get your finished product and it will be something your boys will enjoy reading years down the road. Angela was the one who told me about the lower quality of pictures if you use the ones that have been formatted for the web - which is why I went Shutterfly (been using them since 1999 - always happy with my books from there). Would love to find an easier way - if I do, I'll pass it along. Now go have a Sundae on me! ;)

Isn't it great when someone just "gets" you? You are so lucky to have such a personal gift! Enjoy it every day but only let it influence you once a week!
