Bathroom Remodeling Update - The Floor

We (this is the royal “We” - meaning my husband, Lee, does the remodeling work, and I watch and remind him to use the level) are now tackling the floor.

I fell in love with this travertine tile, but it has proven challenging. Travertine is a natural stone, which means that it has lots of personality, each piece is unique. But it is also a relatively soft stone, so it chips and cracks easily during installation. We are already committed and will see this project to the end, but are now wondering if the tile will crack unexpectedly in a few months. I hope not!

Because each piece is different, we layed them out before glueing them down, so we could select their unique placement. Our least favorite ones will end up under the vanity. We used little Post-It notes to label the tiles in the order in which they are to be installed.

Progress is slow, but I just have to keep telling myself that, at least, the project is moving forward . . . Arrgh!

That's going to be a beautiful floor! The post-it notes are a great idea. We used painters' tape--same idea--when we did our floor. We control freaks will hae to stick together!

That tile is gorgeous. I can't wait to see the finished product. How clever to put notes on it. I (we) would never even attempt such a thing. I applaud you.

We need to do our ensuite bathroom and can't make any choices. Good to know about the marble tiles.
Looking forward to seeing the finished room.

Oh, this looks like quite the undertaking! It's going to be beautiful! I so wish Lee would rub off on Doug (*sigh*), but alas, after all these years, I know that's not in the cards. I'll settle for getting the garage (laughably) cleaned out.

We recently finished a bathroom remodel (but we had someone else do it...we have no skills that way!) We use travertine, also. I LOVE it! I love the uniqueness of each piece and how they are different, but all fit together so nicely. I've been meaning to post pictures of the before and after of our bathroom. I'll have to get on that one of these days! :) Good luck!

I love travertine - We had it put in both of our bathrooms and 2 other rooms - I've had it for about 3 years in my bath and I still love it...
I know you'll like it too!
