Mardi Gras

Here's a blast from the past:  My brother, Al, and I, during carnival season in Cuba, dressed up for a costume party.

Happy Mardi Gras!

does he have a mustache? please tell me your brother has a painted on mustache. The outfits are fantastic and the two of you are cute as can be. As one of my friends from high school just reminded me - it has been more than 20 and less than 40 years ago that we were marching in the Mardi Gras parade. Fun times!

Nicki - Yes, my brother does have a fake mustache, painstakingly painted on by my older sister. Interestingly enough, Al has had a real mustache for most of his life. Now it's getting a little grey . . .

Hi Maria, I love this old picture so I decided to go back through your blog and see more from your Cuban life. Of course, I started with your recap of 2008 and now I'm laughing so hard. I'm also waiting to go back to Italy. Isn't it fabulous? I hope you'll tell us more about Cuba. Linda

You two cuties look adorable! Such memmories, ha? Do you remember Cuba from your childhood? God, wish it was free soon, Jesus! I had so many friends from Cuba when I was a kid in the early 60's, I used to help them with the English and whatever we could too, specially our nice neighbors, the Oteros. My mom served a tamal de yuca as an antree, than later ice cream in the
sherbets, than carrot cake, little pork sandwiches and granola cookies. Thanks for coming by dear Maria.
Love,
FABBY
