Once more, as I've done every Halloween since the boys were little, I made Halloween Soup! It's just homemade chicken noodle soup, but the boys love it. My oldest son, John, actually squeezed in a quick trip from college over the weekend, just so he wouldn't miss out on the soup, and David's highest compliment is “Mom, good soup, it's almost perfect.” And, since it's not perfect, I have to keep making it until I get it right!
Now, how do I make the table fun without being ghoulish? I don't care for the ghoulish Halloween, I prefer the cute Halloween. Here's this year's result: The Spiders' Dinner Party!
My son, John, and I teamed up again to make these cupcakes. I baked and frosted, he made the cobwebs. Cute, huh?
The box of glittery spiders was bought on clearance at Pottery Barn . . .
I love how my everyday dishes transition effortlessly from Winter, to Spring, to Summer, to Fall . . . A tremendous advantage to someone who has a hard time committing to color!
I bought the two-tiered spidery server on clearance at TJ Maxx, same as the tablecloth . . . Sometimes it pays to procrastinate . . .
Orange candles from Walmart . . .
The “Photo of the Day” theme this week is: Little Things . . . I'm on theme for a change!
It was so much fun to make these cupcakes! Check out the bottom of the paper cups!
After my son, John, went back to college, I made another pot of soup to use up the rest of the soup ingredients, so David has had double helpings and can't wait to taunt his brother with the fact that I made soup again, and John didn't get any . . . ha, ha . . . Brothers!
NATURAL HISTORY
The spider, dropping down from twig,
Unfolds a plan of her devising,
A thin premeditated rig
To use in rising.
And all that journey down through space,
In cool descent and loyal hearted,
She spins a ladder to the place
From where she started.
Thus I, gone forth as spiders do
In spider's web a truth discerning,
Attach one silken thread to you
For my returning.

How fun to have that Halloween Soup tradition! I love your table decorations. Those cupcakes are so cute! What a fun way to celebrate Halloween. And that's great that your dishes are so versatile! Good thinking on your part when you chose them!
You and John did a FANTABULOUS job with those cupcakes!!! What a good son you have! The spider motif is really great, and I like the flatware you selected. It really goes well with the table overall. Have a great week!
What a great tradition! I like how you keep the Halloween decor simple (wish I could do that but I'm always getting sucked in!) the spider theme is perfect! Those cupcakes are the perfect centerpiece - edible! Looks like they turned out great! How fun to make them with your SON!

I like a cutesy Halloween too, and this is really cute! You pulled together the spider theme so well, even the tier on your cupcake thingy was spidery.
I love those cupcakes. They are the cherry on top for sure.
I'm such a big kid that I love themes. They make me smile.
This is really cute! Even though I don't like spiders, I like this, very well done! Your son did a great job with the webs on top of the cupcakes!
