Danzonete

My mother would have been 83 years old this week. She was a music-filled woman who loved to dance, and sang with a clear alto voice. We grew up hearing the danzonete - a danzón, the official dance of Cuba, with an added vocal part. She would have recognized this piano version, and would have begun swaying to its rhythm.

¡Felíz cumpleaños, mami, querida!

What an amazingly beautiful mother you had. These pictures are gorgeous. I have a Cuban friend that I grew up with and I well remember their love of music and dance. You just can't sit still when the music is playing!

I'm sure you miss your mother and I hope that you will be able to remember her with happy memories that make you smile.
