My first 5K!

It's so true that when we declare an intention, a true, deep desire to do anything, the universe opens up the flood gates and sends us the resources with which to accomplish them.

The moment I made a commitment to change my lifestyle into one that focuses on health, I have been the recipient of tremendous love and support.  My family has astounded me the most!  They have been there for me every step of the way.  They have changed their eating habits, embraced exercise, learned about diabetes and educated themselves on what makes my glucose spike and how I can avoid it.  Gone are the cookies, and the candy, and the bad carbs.  Everyone has lost weight . . .

At work, suddenly, I find myself surrounded by co-workers who are committed to health!  They have shared their enthusiasm, tips on eating and exercising, and given me their understanding and encouragement.

And that is how I found myself in this photo surrounded by friends, co-workers and family:  My wonderful husband, Leo, and son, David; my friend and boss, Leo and his wife, Angela, and the guy who challenged me to try this, my friend and co-worker, Justin.  This entire group joined me on my biggest challenge to date - a 5K walk.  As a bonus, we also helped raise a little money to help find a cure for Lupus.

When the walk ended and I walked into the finish line, I stopped for a moment and thanked God:  “Thank you for sticking with me.  Thank you for sending me angels to help keep me on the right path.  Thank you for all the grace and love that you have bestowed on me.”  I'm glad I remembered to do that.

I'm joining The Tablescaper for her Seasonal Sundays blog party.  Please stop by.

You go, go, go girl! I support you too with prayers and ideas, like get rid of the carbs and the sweets! I lost 22lbs. last year and kept them off without this things! I cook everything in wáter and eat lots of cokked veggies and just 2 servings of fruit, the light ones. Drink lots of Green tea, cold or warm. I also blend 3 teablespoons of bird sedes with 3 half glasses of plain wáter til a milk comes from it...tan I drain this'milk' and drink it; it helps you lose weight too. I don't know how, but it's worked for me. I changed my style of life, by eating correctly, like you and by walking each morning by the river.
Buena suerte mi amiga, yo se que lo puedes hacer! Have a successful week.

Major congratulations. I have stopped the 'dieting' and embraced more exercise and continued healthy eating with an emphasis on moderation. Generally speaking, the entire family has lost weight and feeling healthier (now if I can get my husband from sneaking in Baked Lays we'll be cooking with gas... or what ever that saying is).

Keep up the good work.

It is great that you can run. How wonderful for you and how nice you have the support of your family. Also how great that you have been an inspiration to them also. Congrats.

Maria, Congratulations on this step!! I walk almost everyday--I live in a family of athletes and outdoors people but I prefer a nice brisk walk with my music or a story. Walking is a wonderful form of exercise! Keep us posted on your progress! Linda

YEAH FOR YOU, MARIA!!! Que bueno, en todo sentido! Isn't it awesome, how things fall into place--NOT by coincidence?? I, too, am glad you remebered your prayer at the end. :) Continued success in your "new" life, Maria. ~Zuni
