I love revolutionary era history and travel to Williamsburg to eat in the taverns there. I tried to make the Sally Lunn bread after one trip but it wasn't the same--maybe like the arabic breads it really needs the stone oven. How cool is that pic of the upside down plate with your camera shadow!! I'm trying to remember the condition of Germany at that time--was it even Germany yet? Now I'm off on a search to find out what the colonials would have thought of German plates.
